Choosing a tipper truck for your haul cycle

A tipper truck is specified around the haul cycle, not around the model name. Three variables decide the right chassis: the payload you need per trip, the condition of the haul road, and how the material behaves when the body is raised. A unit that performs well on a flat asphalt site is rarely the right choice for a wet quarry floor with steep gradients.

What decides the chassis

  • Payload per trip — the target tonnage sets the axle count and body volume together. Overspecifying payload to cover occasional peaks costs fuel on every other trip.
  • Haul road condition — unsealed, rutted or graded roads push the specification toward a heavier rear axle and more robust suspension rather than more horsepower.
  • Material behaviour — sticky clay and wet spoil discharge differently from sand and crushed stone. This is why body shape matters more than most buyers expect.
  • Legal axle load at destination — the permitted gross weight at the port of entry often caps payload more tightly than the chassis does.

U-shape body or rectangular body

U-shape bodies shed sticky material cleanly because there are no square corners for wet spoil to pack into. They are the usual choice for clay, wet sand and ore that has been rained on. Rectangular bodies carry a larger flat-floor volume and suit general construction waste, rubble and mixed loads where discharge is not the constraint. Both are available across the range, and the choice is confirmed against the material you actually move rather than against the model list.

Export configuration

Export units are built to the emission standard and drive configuration accepted at destination. Euro V and mining-duty specifications are available on request. Left-hand drive is standard for most African, Middle Eastern and Central Asian markets; right-hand drive is built to order. Cab, tyre and fuel tank specifications are confirmed in writing before the order is placed, and loading photographs are taken before the unit leaves the supply base.

Frequently asked questions

How many axles do I need on a tipper truck?
Six-wheel units (6x4) cover most construction and aggregate work. Eight-wheel units (8x4) are chosen when the legal payload at destination allows more tonnage per trip and the haul road can carry it. The axle count should follow the permitted gross weight, not the other way round.

Can the tipper body be changed after delivery?
Body replacement is possible but expensive, and it usually means the unit is out of service while the work is done. Specifying the right body at order is cheaper than correcting it later, which is why we confirm material behaviour before quotation.

Are mining-duty tipper versions available?
Yes. Mining specifications with reinforced bodies, heavier running gear and additional wear protection are quoted on request. These are built against the site conditions you describe rather than offered as a standard catalogue item.
